The National Council of Film Critics of the United States, one of the most influential nonprofit associations of movie experts, has named the winners of the 2016 awards. The best movie was the drama "Manchester by the Sea" directed by Kenneth Lonergan. The latter also received an award for Best Original Screenplay, and his starring Casey Affleck was awarded the Best Actor award.

Amy Adams, who starred in the science fiction movie Arrival, was named Best Actress 2016. For supporting roles, awards were awarded to Jeff Bridges ("At Any Cost") and Naomi Harris ("Moonlight"). The movie "Traveling Salesman" was recognized as the best movie in a foreign language.

The project "Kubo. The Legend of the Samurai" won in the category "Best Animated Film". Best Director of 2016 named Barry Jenkins, who directed the movie "Moonlight". Best Ensemble cast appeared in the biographical drama Hidden Figures.

The National Council of Film Critics of the United States is one of the oldest professional associations of American moviemakers and movie critics, founded in 1909. Traditionally, the awarding of this particular prize opens a big award season in North America.
