Disney has announced the premiere of the sequel to The Lion King, Guardian Lion: Return of the Roar. The TV animated cartoon will debut on Disney Channel on November 22, 2015. As for the companion series Lion Guard, it will premiere in 2017. This is reported by The Wrap.

The action in the cartoon takes place in the African savanna, and the main character is Kion, the second cub of Simba and Nala, who is destined to become the leader of the Lion Guard, a team consisting of the best representatives of the Pride Lands.

Manning the team, Kion ignores the tradition of lions in the Guard. Instead, he chooses several of his friends to guard, who, in his opinion, have the necessary qualities: the fearless badger Bangu; the self-confident cheetah Fuli; the friendly and cheerful hippo Besht; and the intellectual heron It.

Many of The Lion King's beloved characters will appear in the new cartoon. James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella will once again voice their characters – Timona and Pumbaa respectively.

The cast of "Lion Guard: Return of the Roar" includes actors: Rob Lowe (Simba), Gabriel Union (Nala), Max Charles (Kion), Joshua Rush (Banga), Atticus Shaffer (It), Diamond White (Fuli) and Dusan Brown (Besht).

Both the movie and the series are developed by Ford Riley ("Timon and Pumbaa"), who is also the executive producer of the projects. Directed by Howie Parkins.
