Paramount has abandoned the Terminator sequel

Paramount has given up on the development of the Terminator franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, citing an official confirmation from the studio, the premiere of the sixth movie in the series, scheduled for May 19, 2017, has been canceled completely.

Instead of "Terminator 6", the studio has reserved this date for a more promising project from its point of view - a full-length version of "Rescuers Malibu". At the time of this writing, there were no comments on the reason for canceling the premiere.

As a reminder, Terminator 5 Genisys was released in 2015. The movie, directed by Alan Taylor, stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jay Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okenai, Matt Smith, Courtney B. Vance, Byun-Hoon Lee, Michael Gladys and other actors. With a production budget of $ 155 million, it grossed $ 440 million worldwide, theoretically reaching a payback level. However, apparently this was not enough for Paramount to agree to fund the continuation of the project. Cinema News users considered the movie Terminator 5: Genisys the main disappointment of 2015, having awarded it the Rusty Bagel anti-award.

In 2019, all rights to the Terminator should return to its creator, James Cameron, but it is not yet known whether the latter will want to make movies on this topic. The director himself has repeatedly stated that this is a passed stage in his career.
