Popular Hollywood actor Joaquin Phoenix had a chance to become Batman. This was revealed in an interview with Yahoo by director Darren Aronofsky, who in the late 90s of the last century worked on a failed adaptation of the DC comics series.

"I always wanted to entrust this role to Joaquin. It's funny, but I think that we were just ahead of the time with our ideas. Of course, in the case of comics, there can be very different readings, but then Hollywood was fascinated by versions of the Golden era of comics and preferred classic movie adaptations, "he said.

Note that, unlike the colorful and grotesque movies about Batman and his entourage that were released in the 90s, Aronofsky planned to shoot a gloomy picture with an R rating. In his version, which he developed together with Frank Miller, Bruce Wayne grew up on the street and preferred to deal with crime not with high-tech devices, but with brass knuckles. Warner Bros. Studio Management did not support this vision and the project was closed. Later, the series was restarted by director Christopher Nolan.

Recall that viewers will be able to see Batman in the movie Justice League, which will be released worldwide in November 2017. The role of Gotham's defender was played by Ben Affleck.
