The pilot episode of the HBO series Watchmen, based on popular comics, has received high marks from Western movie critics. At the time of this post, Rotten Tomatoes has a 93 percent rating based on 50 reviews.

"Phenomenal cast, fantastic choreography of stunts, social and historically significant storytelling compelling enough to expect a sequel Perhaps some comments about the Comedian are appropriate here, but in general, Watchmen on HBO is anything but a joke, "says THe Hollywood Reporter author Richard Trenholm.

" The show is so ambitious, with its different time frames, narrative structure and development prospects, which is just amazing, " says Sonia Seirala from Vanity Fair.

"Not all of this works, but anyway, it's an exciting attempt to recreate some of the same prophecies that Moore and Gibbons made in the 1980s." Alan Sepinwall from Rolling Stone.

However, the audience was not so much inspired by what they saw. This is evidenced by the more than modest viewer rating of only 43 percent.
