Theory: How Assassin's Creed Valhalla will connect all games and complete the circle?

Image

Since the Assassin's Creed series debuted in 2007, the Templar versus Assassin confrontation sprawled over 9 numbered parts. Five years and four games after the conclusion of Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed: Origins, which was later followed by Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, served as the origin stories of the Brotherhood of Assassins. And while the last two games have brought us a lot of information about how the brotherhood was born, they also left a lot of questions. And Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be able to answer them. We've taken apart and expanded on the old IGN theory, given what we already know about Assassin's Creed Valhalla, how it will tie the storyline of all games. There will be spoilers here.

Layla and the Staff of Hermes

Origins introduced players to Leila Hassan, an Abstergo Industries employee, who is on her first mission with the company. After somewhat reluctantly joining the Assassins at the end of Origins, she returns to Odyssey, fully devoting herself to the Brotherhood, eager to learn more stories from antiquity.

Exploring Greece through the eyes of Cassandra, who sets out to find the secret of her origin, she also finds the Gateway to Atlantis. Following her path in the present, Leila finds Cassandra herself at the gate to the lost city, whose life is supported by the staff of Hermes. Cassandra gives her the staff and her duties, and she herself dies after several centuries of existence.

But Leila turns out to be corrupted by the staff, loses control over her newfound power and attacks her friend and colleague Victoria, as a result of which Isu Altea believes that she is not worthy.

After this incident, however, she will be working with the Brotherhood. As the developers have already confirmed, we are waiting for the continuation of its story and they have many ideas where to deploy it in the form in which it is. Perhaps we will have a more interesting story in our time.

In the next part, Leila will continue to search for artifacts, but the end of Odyssey cannot but affect her. Perhaps the staff incident was for her a moment of realizing the absolute power that the Isu artifacts possess, and how terrible they would be in the wrong hands.

Looking ahead, Leila's path may lead her to a desire to find and destroy all artifacts, and not give them to the Assassins or Templars. With Cassandra's call in The Odyssey to maintain a balance between order and chaos - as reflected by the Templars and Assassins, respectively - Laila may even end up working against both organizations to fulfill that promise.

What does Valhalla have to do with it?

Scandinavian mythology is considered a chronological collection of fairy tales with a grand apocalyptic ending called Ragnarok. At the same time, Valhalla is the palace of the dead for glorious warriors, which is represented in mythology as a huge hall or palace hung with shields and swords. It has 540 doors, through which 800 warriors will one day go out to the last battle - the same Ragnarok, also known as the Fate of the Gods.

Going back to Cassandra's warning, an imbalance in order and chaos - perhaps the Templars, with far more power and influence than the Brotherhood, could herald a similar catastrophic event in the modern era. Just as Odysseus used the Greek gods as figures for Isu, the Scandinavian gods would probably have become one too.

Even the very term "Fate of the Gods" corresponds to the conflict between Assassins and Templars. The mission of the former for millennia was to prevent the Pieces of Eden left by Isu from falling into the hands of the Templars and to prevent the end of the world as we know it. And most importantly, with what we saw earlier, nothing is impossible.

We have clearly seen ancient creatures, which were the result of weak minds gaining power over artifacts. And if Isu's technology is responsible for the creation of Medusa or the Minotaur, there is no reason why we could not see, for example, Thor wielding his mighty hammer Mjolnir. Odyssey and Origins have proven that the "magic" of myths can work within the AC universe, and also provide an important context for how the conflict between the Invisibles and the Order of the Ancients [prototypes for future Assassins and Templars] developed after the story of Bayek and Aya.

In addition, the lead producer of the series, Julien Laferriere, confirmed in an interview that myths will be one of the important parts of the plot. The emphasis will be on the fact that they played an important role in the lives of their heroes, and Ubisoft does not want to miss this opportunity.

Historical Time Cycle

Origins ends in 43 BC when Bayek and Aya defeat the Order of the Ancients who owned the Pieces of Eden in Egypt. They also lay the foundation for the Brotherhood as keepers of order, freedom and the will of the world from conspiracies. It wasn't until 1191, over a thousand years later, that we are transported to the original Assassins Creed.

The Viking Age lasted from 793 to 1066. Assassin's Creed Valhalla takes place in 873, so its timeline will be the perfect bridge between Origins and Altair's adventures in the original.

The disappearance of the Vikings was gradual and due to a number of things; mostly, their lifestyle simply did not keep pace with the changes taking place in Europe.

Assassin's Creed has always focused on this dynamic, from the spread of Christianity in the Middle East during the Crusades to the introduction of new technologies during the Renaissance to the emergence of democracy and politics in Ancient Greece. The world is constantly changing, and the Viking Age will become a natural continuation of the conflict between "tradition" and the development of society.

Viking raids were considered prestigious for young Norwegian men, while older people were expected to settle on their farms and start a family. In the early days of the era, forays were extremely common and almost always resulted in fame and fortune for the participants. It is at this time that we will play. It has already been stated that our main goal will be to raid English lands and develop our settlement.

Over time, European societies began to develop their way of life and assemble well-trained, efficient armies that can easily defend themselves from raids. In turn, this made the raids less profitable, leading to a decrease in the number of wealthy Norwegian men and a large number of unemployed people who had to work on their land in order to receive decent wages.

Also at this time, the Christian church arrived in Northern Europe and condemned the act of raiding, because it did not correspond to their belief system. Because of this, and mainly because the raids were no longer profitable, the Vikings stopped them and instead began working to live up to the standards of civilization that the rest of Europe was beginning to set.

And on this platform, you can easily develop conflicts between Assassins and Templars. A European society with fortified armies that are difficult to deal with and half savages is like a natural continuation of the conflict between the Invisibles and the Ancients who will later become what we know them to be.

In Valhalla, the antagonist will be King Alfred the Great, who is already listed as an ambiguous character. No wonder if he happens to be a member of the order.

Whereas some of the Viking deaths were also related to the spread of Christianity throughout Europe, leading to the Crusades organized by the Latin Church, this would provide a perfect connection to Altair's story in the first game.

Image

As a result, we have a game that is more likely to focus on how the invisible became Assassins, and the ancients became Templars. So far, this is the most likely theory for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
