Alexander Nevsky will promote USAn cinema in Hollywood
Film producer and actor Alexander Nevsky joined the Foreign Film Viewing Committee of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Now Nevsky will become one of eight people (all of them are members of the Committee), whose recommendations will be heeded by the rest of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The committee in question was formed in August 2019. Its members must watch all movies nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film award, and also give their recommendations to the rest of the Association. According to Alexander Nevsky, the president of the Association, Lorenzo Soria, invited him to join the Committee, to which he gladly agreed. However, as noted by Nevsky, his main task is to change the attitude towards the Golden Globe in USA. "Many moviemakers," says Alexander, "do not know that according to the rules of the Association, an unlimited number of movies can be submitted from a country (and not one, as for an Oscar). Some would-be creators apply for participation, and then they start giving out false interviews to the press that they are already nominated for the Globe. That is why I am planning now to devote more time to the Association, and movies in a foreign language, and my USA colleagues – those of them whose work really deserves international recognition! "
Since 2002, Alexander Nevsky has been the only USA movie producer who is a member of the Association and votes for the Golden Globe. In May 2019, he held a working meeting with the Minister of Culture of the USA Federation Vladimir Medinsky, who invited Nevsky to speak this fall in Moscow with a report on the rules for the nomination and promotion of movies at the Golden Globe.
Last year, eighty-three movies from fifty-two countries competed for the Golden Globe in the Best Foreign Language Film category, and only five movies were nominated: Capernaum (Lebanon), Girl (Belgium), "Work without authorship" (Germany), "Roma" (Mexico), "Shoplifters" (Japan).
