Danny Boyle disowned franchises

Image Just months before production of Bond 25 began, Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire and 28 Days Later and other popular films, left the project. This decision was due to creative differences, but the behind-the-scenes story is likely much more interesting than the option offered to the public. In a recent interview, he was asked about working on the 007 film series. “I learned my lesson, franchises are not mine. For me, it's like constantly digging the same hole. Honestly, I would prefer not to participate in mainstream projects”, - explained the director.

Recall that for some time Bond 25 did not have a director. Then there was news that Danny Boyle had taken over the post. He agreed to participate in the project on the condition that he wrote the script himself and would work with his longtime colleague John Hodge. The producers agreed, but a few months before filming began, it became known that Boyle was leaving the project. There is a version that the proposed solution to the film, namely the death of the protagonist, became a stumbling block. The controversy caused filming to be delayed, and as a result, Carey Fukunaga (Rootless Beasts) was appointed director.

Now shooting is in full swing, but everything is not as smooth as we would like. The fact is that the authors constantly rewrite the script, and instead of the usual press conference they released meager TV ads. Also recently during filming, an explosion stunt got out of hand, injuring one of the crew members and destroying part of the set. Moreover, the leading actor himself, Daniel Craig, broke his ankle during the filming of one of the scenes.

On the one hand, Boyle's refusal to participate in the filming of franchises will allow him to plunge into his own projects. But on the other hand, we may never see the Boilie plot twists in a big movie. Bond 25 will premiere in USA on April 9, 2020. Boyle's Yesterday, about what would have happened if the Beatles' songs had been forgotten by everyone but one person, will be released on September 19 this year.
