A Year Without Cannes
After much deliberation, the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival nevertheless made the final decision on the holding of the 73rd show. Much to the disappointment of those who were waiting for the struggle for the Palme d'Or, this year there will be no star gathering on the Cote d'Azur. The organizers had a second option - to postpone the festival until autumn, but it looks like they refused such an opportunity.“The situation is such that it is difficult to arrange a physical screening, so in early June we will announce the list of films that were originally included in the Main Program”, - said a spokesman for Cannes. He added that instead of a virtual event, the organizers decided to cooperate with the autumn shows, where some of the films will be shown. Over the weekend, the director of Cannes, Thierry Fremaux, said that only part of the main program would be announced. It will include films, which are to be premiered in cinemas from this spring to next spring. The selection of films for the 74th screening will begin in the fall, and projects whose release has been postponed for a year will be able to apply for a place in the 2021 competition program.  The Cannes-approved films will be screened at festivals in Toronto, Deauville, Angouleme, San Sebastian, New York, Busan and Lyon.
