Daniel Espinosa will film his ”Emigrants”

Image Portal The Hollywood Reporter shares new news from Cannes Film Festival : director Daniel Espinosa ("Number 44", "Cape Town Access Code") together with producer Frederick Wikstrom (Easy Money) begins work on the epic drama The Emigrants .

The film will be based on the novel by Wilhelm Muberg, which Jan Truel had already filmed in 1971. The Swedish film Emigrants, starring Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow, received five Oscar nominations. Petter Skavlan ("Kon-Tiki") will adapt the plot of the book for the new version.

The novel is set in the Swedish countryside in the 1840s. At the center of events is a poor peasant family forced to flee to America so as not to starve to death.The book was first published in 1949 and marked the beginning of a whole series about the life of emigrants.
