Dior has abandoned the Johnny Depp commercial

Dior declined to air a commercial for the Sauvage men's fragrance series featuring popular actor Johnny Depp, as it caused controversy from American viewers, many of whom considered it offensive to the indigenous peoples of the United States. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The video titled "We Are the Land" took place in the desert. Depp played the guitar, standing on a rock, and an Indian in a traditional headdress and vestments danced nearby by the fire. It was highly unethical for social media users to portray Native Americans in advertisements for a fragrance called Sauvage, in tune with the derogatory "savage". According to critics, this contributed to the spread of "false stereotypes".

Dior officials said the project was developed in close collaboration with Native American consultants from the Organization for the Defense of Indigenous Peoples to support "the culture, values and heritage of the Indians."

Note that Depp himself has repeatedly argued that among his ancestors were Indians, and even passed a rite of passage in the Cherokee tribe. The actor has worked with Dior since 2015.
