The US Boxing Office is still under the Force
The first weekend of 2016 ( January 1-3 ) in the North American box office did not bring any surprises: the blockbuster " Star Wars: The Force Awakens " still dominates the rest of the pictures. and just one newcomer watered down last week's company.The Force Awakens earned another $ 88.3 million on its third weekend, and JJ Abrams has an impressive $ 740 at home , 3 million . A passionate Star Wars fan since childhood, Jay Jay Abrams has managed to bring the iconic franchise back to the screens. Perhaps in some moments the director paid more attention to visual effects than to the plot and the characters themselves, but at the same time The Force Awakens has the atmosphere of the original trilogy. And curiously, the seventh part was made not only for fans of the film series, but also for those who were not familiar with it.  The second position in the rating remained with the comedy " Hello, Dad, New Year ". The duet of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg was able to make viewers laugh for another $ 29 million . In total, the rival fathers grossed $ 93.7 million at the box office in two weeks, which, we agree, is a decent result for a film of this genre. Although the reviewers called the picture Sean Anders mediocre and predictable, none of them denied the fact that Hello Daddy New Year is a fun and charming film, and Ferrell and Wahlberg have done a great job in their roles. The only newcomer to make it to the top 5 is Quentin Tarantino The Hateful Eight . Yes, and he is a newcomer only in the wide distribution, since in the USA the limited screening of the picture began at the end of December. But now, having opened in most of the country's cinemas, the film has collected $ 16.2 million , and its result in two weeks is estimated at $ 29.6 million . The The Hateful Eight was originally projected to have big gross receipts, but films rated R always carry some risks for Hollywood majors.  As for the reviews about The Hateful Eight , most of them are full of such epithets as “gorgeous”, “smart” and “stylish”. The film differs from everything that the largest studios offer us, and, as critics noted, only Tarantino could make such a movie. The dialogues are written in his style, and the mix of violence, fun and madness draws in the viewer from the very first minutes. The soundtrack written by Ennio Morricone became a good addition to everything that happens on the screen.  In fourth place is another comedy - " Sisters " with a result of $ 12.6 million . The film, starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, has already made viewers laugh at $ 61.7 million . The picture, the main advantage of which was the duet of actresses, caused mixed feelings in the professional community: some considered it quite amusing, while others did not have enough witty jokes. In any case, the Sisters in the box office exceeded their expectations.  And the first review of the US box office in the new year closes with the cartoon " Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Grand Chipmunition ". The fourth part of the franchise lured viewers to the cinemas, who gave another $ 11.8 million . And although most of those who watched the tape were struck by a huge number of stupid jokes, Alvin and the company at home grossed $ 67.4 million . A competitor to the film Walt Becker will appear only in two weeks ("Norm from the North"), and until that moment chipmunks will reign in the segment of cartoons.
