Vincent Donofrio will return to the underworld of New York
One of the most striking and notable works in the career of Vincent D'Onofrio was the role of New York crime boss Wilson Fisk in the Daredevil television comic strip. As it became known to The Hollywood Reporter, the Emmy nominee will give another master class on creating images of charismatic gangsters. D'Onofrio will play the legendary Italian-American mafioso Vincent Gigante in The Godfather of Harlem.Gigante is rightfully considered one of the most dangerous criminals in the history of the Big Apple. Vincent was born in 1928 to a family from Naples. At 16, he dropped out of school to pursue a career in boxing. Gigante spent 25 fights in the professional ring and suffered only four defeats. Soon the fearless boxer was taken under his wing by the influential New York crime boss Vito Genovese. According to some sources, the intelligence level of Gigante was estimated at only 39 points, which corresponds to indicators of moderate mental retardation. Despite this, the bandit was rapidly moving up the criminal ladder. First, Vito Genovese instructed him to eliminate Frank Costello, who bore the unspoken title of Prime Minister of the US underworld. Although the victim miraculously survived the assassination attempt in the end, Vincent earned a lot of points in the eyes of his boss. When a couple of years later the leader and leading fighter of the criminal family thundered behind bars, Don Vito appreciated Gigante's loyalty and made him his right hand. As a result, it was Vincent who inherited the Genovese empire and became one of America's most powerful criminals. At the end of his criminal career, he had to remember the results of his IQ test and pretend to be feeble-minded,  The Godfather of Harlem tells about the confrontation between the Genovese family and the dark-skinned gangster Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson, who will portray Oscar winner Forest Whitaker. Malcolm X, the famed preacher and uncompromising African American civil rights activist, is also expected to play a major role in the series' plot. The showrunner of the intriguing Epix TV project will be taken by Chris Brencheto, who is familiar with the crime drama genre from his work on the popular TV series "Barygi".
