Garland's ”Beach” will receive a new adaptation

Image The novel The Beach hit the shelves of bookstores back in 1996 and became a bestseller. Hollywood, on the other hand, recognized the name of the author Alex Garland a few years later, when Danny Boyle filmed his debut work. Now Garland has established himself not only as a talented writer, but also as an excellent screenwriter and director of the fantastic drama Out of the Car, and his literary work is still of interest to producers.

During an interview on Reddit, one user asked Garland if viewers would ever see a new adaptation of The Beach, and the filmmaker's response was yes. He did not disclose details, but admitted that talented people were involved in the adaptation.

The original novel is about a tourist named Richard, who is in search of a better life for himself. As a result, the main character ends up in Thailand, where he learns that a certain commune has turned one of the islands into a mini-paradise. After reaching the beach, Richard tries to become a part of the local community, but it turns out that everything in dreams was much easier than in real life, and the inhabitants of paradise are also characterized by such base feelings as cruelty, greed and anger ...

The main role in Danny Boyle's film was given to Leonardo DiCaprio, who dreamed of starring in a more serious drama after Titanic. However, critics took the film adaptation with hostility, claiming that the director was never able to convey the essence of the novel, leaving only a beautiful picture. The $ 144 million was due to DiCaprio's popularity, although he was even nominated for a Golden Raspberry for his role in The Beach.

In 2012, the FOX channel was going to shoot a television series based on Garland's book, but there was no news about the project, and, probably, the adaptation is now in the hands of other specialists. Hopefully, their version will eventually be as close to the original work as possible.
