Germans will be defeated near Moscow again
A creative film group headed by director Sergei Mokritsky ("Battle for Sevastopol", "Draft") has begun work on a new film "First Oscar" about front-line cameramen who filmed newsreels during the defense of Moscow in 1941-1942. The name is no coincidence: it is based on the film "The Defeat of the German Troops near Moscow", filmed in 1942. It received an Academy Award in 1943 for Best Documentary, and was later adapted for the US release under the title Moscow Strikes Back."First Oscar" will tell about the selfless work of student operators during the decisive events in the fall of 1941, when Soviet troops at the cost of incredible efforts were able to stop the Germans near Moscow and thereby destroyed the myth of the invincibility of the German army. According to the script written by Maxim Budarin ("Battle for Sevastopol") and Yuri Nenev, two young cameramen, Lev Alperin and Ivan Maisky, remain in Moscow, refusing to evacuate. They rush to the front line to film the battle for Moscow with their cameras. And then the viewer will see the 15th Oscar ceremony in peaceful Los Angeles, where the Soviet documentary receives the Academy Award. As it became known, the premiere of the film will be timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Moscow and will take place at the end of 2021. Preparatory work for the shooting has already begun, casting of actors is in full swing, as well as the search for suitable locations. The film about the battle for Moscow, filmed in 1942, has not so much artistic value as historical value. It shows newsreels that vividly reflect the life of the front-line capital - Muscovites have turned their city into an impregnable fortress. Residents build defensive fortifications, men enroll in workers' detachments, women stand at the machines in factories, replacing husbands, fathers and brothers leaving the militia.  We can say that this documentary picture was of a propaganda nature, but at that time it was necessary for the Soviet people to show that German troops can not only be stopped, but also destroyed. And the future film by Sergei Mokritsky is a dedication to the feat of cameramen and front-line directors who made a huge contribution to the victory over Germany.
