James Gunn can defect to DC
Although Disney fired James Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it looks like his career hasn't suffered in the least. According to new rumors, several big studios, including Warner Bros., are looking to hire a film maker for some of their big projects, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Currently, the majors are waiting for the contract with Disney to expire - the House of Mouse has to discuss the last details with Gunn. But as soon as the contract is terminated, the director will receive offers from all sides."We would not hesitate to work with him" - said a representative of the studio, who asked to remain anonymous. Warner Bros. will most likely become the most promising option, as they control the DC Universe - the main competitor of Marvel. Hiring Gunn to direct the Green Lantern Corps, for example, would be a big win for DC.  As a reminder, Disney kicked Gunn out after conservative bloggers leaked his tweets ten years ago, in which the filmmaker joked about pedophilia. Immediately after the dismissal, the entire cast of "Guards" openly supported the director. Dave Batista even threatened to leave the project if the studio abandoned Gunn's script, which he managed to complete. The rest of the studios believe that the director's offensive tweets cannot be a reason for refusing to work with him. A film company spokesman said, “Many believe he joked jokes like this to maintain his comedic image at the time. A strange sense of humor shouldn't be a crime.  Disney and Gunn are working on the final details of his departure, according to insiders. Since he did not violate the terms of the contract, he can count on a forfeit of $ 10 million or even more. “I was told that we cannot start negotiations with him until he resolves all the problems with the studio,” said one of the representatives. Also, according to rumors, Disney is not going to turn out to be from his script. What's even more surprising is that two different sources report that the studio is even looking to invite Gunn to direct another Marvel movie. So even if he doesn't return to the director's chair for Guardians, his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be over yet. If nothing comes of the WB, one thing is clear: James Gunn's career is not over. He has an undeniable talent and has been able to turn an unknown Marvel comic strip into one of the largest franchises in the world.
