Ewan McGregor chooses DC

Image Warner Bros. Studio preparing for the filming of "Birds of Prey" in full swing, and therefore the name of the film is increasingly flashing in the news feed: either the major selects partners for Harley Quinn, then information about the "adult" rating of the film comics leaks into the press. According to the portal The Wrap, now the title team of superheroines has a main enemy. Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting) is negotiating with the WB about getting the antagonist role in Birds of Prey.

Back in August, it became known that the Black Mask would become the central villain of the blockbuster. A month later, it was reported that two people apply for this role at once - McGregor and Sharlto Copley ("District 9"). The WB bosses had a difficult choice: McGregor has a Golden Globe and undeniable talent, and Copley, although he cannot boast of a pile of awards, is accustomed to the roles of psychopathic killers.

As a result, the choice of the studio fell on McGregor. He will play Roman Zionis, a ruthless mafioso with a predilection for torture and wearing creepy masks. The character appeared on the pages of comics in 1985, and since then his backstory has remained practically unchanged. Zionis killed his parents to take over the family business, but squandered all the wealth out of his own stupidity. For all the troubles, Roman blamed Bruce Wayne and decided to take revenge on him, turning into a villain known as the Black Mask.

Birds of Prey will give McGregor the opportunity to work again with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the actor's co-star on Fargo. She, by the way, got the role of the Huntress, in the comics having connections with the mafia, like Zionis. The cast also includes Margot Robbie, Jerny Smollett and Rosie Perez.

The blockbuster is slated to premiere on February 7, 2020, and a few weeks earlier McGregor will also appear in Doctor Sleep, which is in full swing.
