The US Boxing Office has become hostage to Wakanda

Image Black Panther continues its triumphant march through US cinemas. A quick start at home and the interest of viewers in the new blockbuster Marvel for the third week in a row, the film has provided leadership in the North American box office. Last weekend (March 2-4) was no exception, and Black Panther did not give a single chance to newcomers, who, however, did not hope for the first place in the financial rating.

Ryan Coogler's tape added $ 65.7 million to its asset and now, with $ 501.1 million, is the second among all films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, behind only The Avengers ($ 623.3 million). The $ 500 million milestone succumbed to Black Panther in three weeks. Among the Marvel movie comics, such a result was previously achieved by the same "Avengers" and "Another War".

Outside the United States, the film about T'Challa earned an additional $ 56.2 million. Thanks to this, its global gross came very close to the $ 900 million mark, and next week the blockbuster will finally be released in China, where grateful viewers will surely generously replenish its piggy bank.

The second place finished its first week of action-thriller "Red Sparrow" with Jennifer Lawrence in the title role. Director Francis Lawrence at one time liked the novel by Jason Matthews so much that he hastened to offer his Hunger Games colleague a role in the film adaptation. Jennifer agreed, but at the same time work on "Explosive Blonde" intensified, and these two film adaptations could not be avoided. So far, this comparison is not good for the "Red Sparrow". Thriller for the debut weekend mastered $ 17 million against $ 18.3 million from the tape with Charlize Theron, but the difference in the budgets of these two projects is colossal. The creators of "Explosive Blonde" spent about $ 30 million, while Lawrence and his team - all $ 69 million.

Increasingly, analysts are convinced that it is impossible at such a cost to hope that fans of one actress or actor will provide a decent box office for the film. In addition, "Red Sparrow" divided critics into two camps, and the audience gave it an average rating of B. Jennifer Lawrence's acting is impeccable, as is the camera work and the ominous soundtrack, but the tape lacks spark. There is too much of everything - violence, nudity, drama, intrigue, but with such a stellar team, critics still hoped for something better.

Another newcomer to the rental took place after the "Red Sparrow". Thriller Death Wish grossed $ 13 million in its first weekend, which is not bad considering the recent shooting in Parkland. Due to the tragedy, MGM had to keep some of the promotional material for the film about a vengeful family man. Some journalists even advocated for the release of the remake to be postponed, but those who nevertheless decided to attend the movie showings were satisfied, as evidenced by the B + rating. The results of "Death Wish" are comparable to the collection of "Inostranets" ($ 13.1 million), but the latter was rated higher by both critics and viewers.

If we talk about the reviews of reviewers, they are mostly negative. The cruelty in the film by Eli Roth coexists with unhurried scenes that only spoil the overall impression. Death Wish could have become a satire on the state of affairs in modern society, but in reality it turned out to be only a second-rate action movie that the viewer will forget about right after going to the cinema.

The comedy "Night Games" dropped to fourth place, having lost about a third of its viewers. Last weekend brought the film an additional $ 10.7 million, and now its achievements in the North American box office are estimated at $ 33.5 million.

Closing the top 5 is Peter Rabbit, which in its fourth week raised another $ 10 million. At home, the picture earned $ 84.1 million, and if you add $ 17.8 million collected outside the United States to them, you get $ 101.9 million - a good result , given that in a number of other countries the release of Peter Rabbit is only expected.
