Will Macaulay Culkin stay home alone again?

Image Hours after Macaulay Culkin reproduced several scenes from the movie "Home Alone" in an advertisement for the cloud service Google Assistant, rumors leaked to the Network that the Disney studio was preparing a light reboot of the famous New Year's franchise. According to Splashreport, the Disney community is planning to follow in the footsteps of Sony studio executives who breathed new life into Jumanji.

The rights to Home Alone are currently owned by 20th Century Fox, which is about to come under the wing of the Walt Disney empire. Disney executives have not yet shared their plans for "Alien", "Predator" and other franchises with "adult" ratings, but hinted that they will immediately take into circulation the intellectual property designed for a family audience. On their part, of course, it would be logical to revive the film series "Home Alone", especially since it went through extremely difficult times.

The original comedy by Chris Columbus became the highest-grossing film in the US in 1990 and received two Academy Award nominations. The sequel, although it was financially successful, failed to impress film critics. As a result, neither Columbus nor Culkin returned to work on the third part, which earned four and a half times less than its predecessor. Not surprisingly, the fourth and fifth films did not go to theatrical release and went straight to TV.

Fortunately for fans of the franchise, this is not a remake of the first two films. Judging by the preliminary information, the new part of "One House" will be a direct continuation of their plot. This leaves hope that Disney will offer Macaulay Culkin to return to the image of the quick-witted and surprisingly resourceful Kevin McCallister. It is rumored that the project may also involve such comedy stars as Will Ferrell and Melissa McCarthy. The film will be written by Mickey Day and Streeter Sidell, screenwriters of the popular sketch show Saturday Night Live.

It is worth noting that Splashreport cannot be ranked among the list of reputable Hollywood publications. The news about the revival of "One House" has not yet been confirmed by representatives of Fox and Disney, or leading insiders of the Dream Factory. It is possible that in the end the information Splashreport will turn out to be just a New Year's joke.
