Obsession and tracing the path to self-destruction is a favorite theme of moviemaker Darren Aronofsky's. Thanks to the incredibly memorable style and the constant change of the setting of his own movies, Aronofsky always manages to surprise the viewer with something special, even if initially the theme seems overwritten (remember at least the magnificent drama Requiem for a Dream). In the Black Swan the director again turns to his favorite topic, but there is no sense of secondary, since he again manages to show the viewer a truly memorable and completely original movie.

The prima ballet theater Nina strives to be the best among her rivals all her life. Having received the main role in a very important production, she did not even know that in order to adequately play this role, she will have to discover in herself that personality, the existence of which she herself did not suspect. The situation is further complicated by the fact that she has a worthy competitor who runs the risk of taking away all the games from Nina.

The plot itself, despite its seeming simplicity at first, is very exciting and raises an interesting topic: Is art worth such victims? `` Of course it is! '' considered Nina and began to look for those qualities that she lacked to play her role better than anyone else. But it's not for nothing that they say that the best role can be played only by living it with your character. And as a result, Nina gradually loses herself, trying to reincarnate in her character.

To fully convey to the viewer Nina's inner state and changes in her character, the director uses incredible visual tricks, making the action on the screen incredibly surreal. Over time, you don't even understand what is reality and what is a figment of Nina's imagination. Despite the fact that there are essentially no villains here, the movie is nothing more than a `` ballet thriller '' I can't name it. A high level of suspense closer to the middle makes you simply squeeze into the chair from tension, and with each subsequent episode it will only grow. The ending is impossible to describe in words: you just need to see it.

When calm episodes come, the picture pleases us with graceful ballet dances, when watching which it seems as if you are watching a real theatrical performance. In these episodes, the operator feels the rhythm of the dance with his heart and moves the camera, catching literally every movement of the screen ballerinas, making what is happening on the screen a real work of art.

The central actors deserve no less epithets, although in fairness it is worth noting that this tape is more like an integral benefit performance of actress Natalie Portman, she was so heartfelt in this role. She got the most difficult job: to convey the inner changes of her character throughout the movie. And she succeeded in full. Honestly, one of the best, if not the best female roles this year!

The rest of the actors, of course, remained a little in the shadows, but some are definitely worth mentioning. Vincent Cassel showed his hero to be a real fan of his work, who demands maximum dedication from his subordinates and strives for excellence. Winona Ryder appears on the screen for a short time, but has time to be remembered. Her heroine (a talented ballerina who retired due to age). Perhaps the only weak link in the movie is the performance of Mila Kunis. She, of course, plays well, but, alas, she could not reach the level of the same Portman and Kassel.
