Beyond Madness
The American film company Permut Presentations decided to create a whimsical mix of historical drama and action-packed horror. As it became known to Variety, the California studio has acquired the rights to film the book by Caleb Jenner Stevens "The Worst Seat in the Hall.In the center of the plot of the tape, tentatively titled "Madman", will be Major Henry Rathbone, who, together with his fiancee Clara Harris, was invited to watch the play "Our American Cousin" in the company of US President Abraham Lincoln. The evening ended with a tragic incident, when actor John Wilkes Booth burst into the presidential box and shot the head of state with a shout of "Such is the fate of tyrants". Rathbone began to pursue Booth, but he drew a dagger and seriously injured the major's hand. Henry managed to grab onto the actor's coat, which caused the actor to fall onto the stage and broke his leg. Nevertheless, the offender managed to escape from the scene. Despite the terrible pain, Rathbone helped Mary Lincoln get to the house on the opposite side of the street, to which her husband was urgently taken. Henry soon fainted from blood loss. During examination of the wound, surgeons discovered that Booth had slashed his arm to the bone and grazed an artery.  Rathbone managed to heal his physical wounds, but his state of mind left much to be desired. The major was acutely worried about Lincoln's death and began to see hallucinations in which Booth's face, distorted with malice, pursued him. In 1867, Henry married Clara, but family life failed to save him from the demons of the past. Rathbone's mental health continued to deteriorate. At first, he began to suspect Clara of treason, and then he began to show unexplained outbursts of anger. In 1883, during one of these attacks, he began to beat his own children. When Clara tried to fight back her husband, he pointed a pistol at her and pulled the trigger several times. Realizing what he had done, Rathbone tried to commit suicide and stabbed himself five times in the chest. Henry survived, was charged with the murder of his wife,  The book will be adapted by young Hollywood screenwriter Alexa Garster, and Oscar-nominated David Permuth (For Conscience) will be producing.
