The films of the Saw franchise have always delighted viewers with unexpected plot twists, but few expected exactly this scenario - the film series will receive a spin-off, the idea of which was proposed to Lionsgate by comedian Chris Rock.|
As it turns out, Rock has been a fan of the franchise since the first part was released in 2004. The script for the project, which is a spin-off of the original film series, will be written based on the idea of Rock, Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Saw 8), with the director's chair given to Darren Lynn Bousman. The latter filmed the most financially successful parts of Saw, from the second to the fourth, after which he switched to other horror films that were not particularly in demand.
“When Chris Rock came to us and detailed his fantastic vision for a film that will expand John Cramer's world, we supported him, said Lionsgate President Joseph Drake. -" Saw " Is one of the highest grossing horror franchises in film history and one of the most successful for the studio. The new part will be as intense and exciting as the previous ones. ”.
The management of Lionsgate did a clever thing, preferring a spin-off over the next sequel to "Saw", because it is possible to compete with Blumhouse and New Line only thanks to original ideas. Comedians in recent years have successfully settled in the genre of horror, take the same Jordan Peel with his "Get Out" and "We" or Danny McBride, who wrote the script for the last "Halloween". Now it's Chris Rock's turn to show if he can scare the audience.
The film will premiere on 23 October 2020.
