Review of the movie Three Musketeers. Rochefort, give him nine livres

A variety of intriguing information circulated about Sergei Zhigunov's movie long before the premiere. That this is one of the most expensive domestic movies (in the end it turned out to be $ 12 million). That Zhigunov raised the creative and production bar very high: most of the movieing was done abroad, the material was edited in France, the color correction was done in Finland, the fights were staged by Michel Kariez, for whom our movie is already the fourth in his career about the musketeers. The music of the composer Alexei Shelygin is performed by the London Symphony Orchestra ... and many other goodies. In addition, we all remember that Zhigunov has extensive experience in costume historical movies — acting in Midshipmen, producing in the TV series Queen Margot and `` Countess de Monsoreau. ''

The movie is almost a classic movie adaptation of Dumas with minor modifications. Made in the genre of a very dynamic and energetic historical action movie, with an overwhelming abundance of duels, horse chases, and so on. The performances of equestrian and fencing episodes are truly impressive, made not only technically, but with circus skill, with elements of acrobatics and vaulting. The whole story and the actors are very emotional and enthusiastic. Some confusion, which can be ignored, stems from the fact that 2 hours of screen time was edited from 94 hours of footage for the series. The same circumstance is responsible, apparently, for some schematic character of the characters and a minimum of plot twists and turns on the big screen and allows one to judge not about acting successes or failures, but, as a first approximation, about the success or failure of casting.

23-year-old Rinal Mukhametov as D Artanyan is the very charm and purity of youth, the main bonus of the movie. He is an actor and circus acrobat, has excellent control over the body and shines with an open white-toothed smile, reads Ronsard's poems to the ladies. The Three Musketeers look at least outwardly harmonious and textured, though not as inspired as Rinal. Porthos (Alexei Makarov) and Aramis (Pavel Barshak) are more dotted, Athos (Yuri Chursin) is more lively, moderately mysterious, cold-blooded, ironic and aristocratic.

Of other acting works, Buckingham (Konstantin Lavronenko) is not bad, stern, courageous, businesslike, romantic at heart; Richelieu (Vasily Lanovoy), cardinal of USA cinema in the role of cardinal of the French court; Louis (Philip Jankowski), for a change in comparison with most readings of Dumas, is cunning and intelligent, not a bad pretender; Rochefort (Vladimir Zaitsev), for once in his own corporeal shell, and not in the form of his favorite voiceover. But the movie did not present bright geniuses of villainy and exquisite majestic monarchs.

Zhigunov intensified the lyrical part and love lines, bringing them to a dramatic intensity. This romantic layer is far from the letter of Dumas, but fits into the heroic and gallant spirit of that time, although many perceived it as trash. With D'Artagnan and Constance, everything is simpler, and the novels of Anna of Austria-Buckingham and Athos-Milady have acquired unexpected minor sentimental details.

But the movie also has enough gaiety. Many incidents ahead of Dumas' flight of fantasy are associated with D'Artagnan. The phrase `` Rochefort, give him nine livres already '' throwing Rochefort closer to the finale, This funny debt at the beginning of the movie reminds him of D'Artagnan at every meeting as an excuse for a duel.

At least 115 movie adaptations of The Three Musketeers are mentioned in various sources. However, the question of movieing or not movieing another is rather idle, everyone reads a novel about the Musketeers in childhood, why not play them in adulthood, if possible. The main thing is how interesting it will be to watch. For the majority, I'm sure the favorite movie adaptation is The Three Musketeers. 1961 Bernard Borderies (in two parts), where there is enough adventure, gallantry, blue blood, deceit, flirting and humor, there is the Bois de Boulogne that has hardly changed for 300 years, explosive and impudent Gascon Gerard Barre, a fragile blonde, she is the iron lady Mylene Demongeot and other actors, absolutely identical to the characters of Alexander Dumas father. Of course, our musketeers Geogriy Jungwald-Khilkevich, movies by Richard Lester 1973 and Stephen Herek 1993 are very juicy.

The best in Sergei Zhigunov's movie Rinal Mukhametov, amazing music by Alexei Shelygin, energy charge, beautiful action, no less beautiful outdoor shooting. This cannot be missed. I would like to watch the 10-episode TV version for a more complete experience.
