Review of the movie Ghost. History Writers

The publishing house is hiring a `` literary black man '' (Evan McGregor) finish for a good fee the memoir of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan). Previous 'unnamed author' drowned under strange circumstances. The writer, whose name will not appear on the cover, meets Lang, begins to redo the manuscript - and discovers strange discrepancies in dates and facts, which suddenly turns out to be deadly to clarify ... The disgraced diamond of European cinema Roman Polanski shot one of the brightest movies of this year - " Ghost " - about the correct order of words in biography.

Roman Polanski, who kept creative silence for five years (not counting a short short movie in the almanac `` Everyone Has His Own Movie ''), shot by a tightly twisted and brilliantly done political detective. The intrigue in the movie is almost biblical, graceful and cynical-witty, but even hinting at its essence would be real rudeness.

`` Ghost '' movieed simply filigree: even apart from the tightly twisted detective plot, watching it is a rare pleasure nowadays. Polanski directed every frame of the movie with all the talent and skill of the same old school seventies-eighties, about which it is customary to speak with reverence in half with adoration.

The rain is pouring down the windows, the deserted island holds deadly secrets, the reflections of the fireplace play in the glasses of whiskey, which is drunk by an unnamed writer and the wife of the former Prime Minister of England, accused of aiding the United States and drawing the British into someone else's war ...

The casting in the movie is incredibly accurate: Polanski used more than just talented actors with suitable types, but also stable roles created by their movieographies.

The director did an excellent job in the movie's design, the familiar screen images of Pierce Brosnan and Evan McGregor. The first - the former prime minister - is a charming handsome man, he looks straight with honest eyes, but there is always some kind of insincerity, a wormhole, even disgust in him. And the second is a sincere guy with a slight naivety, a truth-teller and a favorite of rock. In the Ghost it works outside of the script: that's why the inevitable breakdown between the writer and the prime minister looks so real!

When Kim Cattrall appears on the screen (Samantha from Sex in big city '') as an assistant to former Prime Minister Lang, it is immediately clear that she is not only assisting him in business. Lang's wife (Olivia Wilkinson) seems to understand more than the minister. And good old Tom Wilkinson (the mysterious Professor Emmett) is too good and circumstantial for minor roles.

The daring plot intrigue does not allow you to distract from the movie until the finale. And Roman Polanski can finish as well as Nolan - the brilliant ending of The Phantom delights and dazzles.

New Polanski movie viewers certainly not as much loved as Inception - there is too little personal and fantastic in it for that. " Ghost " rather - like a virtuoso chess game, enchantingly performed, in which you enjoy watching the impressive work of a cold mind.

Do not shoot localizers: " Ghost " - the most accurate translation of the English " Ghost writer " based on the meaning that the director put into it. (By the way, the novel by Robert Harris, on which the movie was movieed, is also called The Ghost.) This movie is not about how celebrity-political biographies are written - but about the background of significant events, which is almost never immediately visible.

In general, if you are a lover of detective stories, literature and Evan McGregor - hurry to the movies: Polanski's new movie will give you great pleasure. I also advise everyone else not to hesitate: `` Ghost '' - a piece painting, they don't do that anymore.
