Hollywood tends to suck all the juices out of its most original ideas, torturing them to the point of impossibility. " Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb " - this is not even a movie, it is a carefully calculated product for a family audience, which on holidays has nothing else to do but go to the cinema with familiar names. Silly, not ambitious, not funny, with vain attempts to add friendly warmth or at least some originality to the show. In fact, everyone has seen this movie a hundred times in their lives, so it is not new.
Sean Levy (“ Living Steel ”, “ Frames ”) – at least the average director. No matter how many movies he makes, it is impossible to distinguish him from the crowd of the same mediocrity. There is no spark from him, he just shoots as best he can what he was given in this case by as many as four screenwriters. The latter's attempts to diversify the story did not go unnoticed, and the dialogues even turned out to be very smooth (despite the presence of some cliched phrases). The action moved to London, which automatically added several new characters, including the hilarious Rebel Wilson and Syrah Lancelot from Downton Abbey. They essentially move history forward.
Although most of the obstacles on the path of the heroes are far-fetched, it is curious to watch their short scrapes. The stakes are big: the lives of all those revived by the gold plate are at stake. Well, as a special note - magic. In general, the movie flows quite smoothly and quickly. A small timing helps out. However, during the viewing it is impossible to escape the thought that the movie was useless. As such, there is not an ounce of entertainment in it. It is rather another way to painlessly kill time.
Let it gradually accelerate and even become interesting in the end, this does not detract from the naivety of everything that happens. Coming from both the studio and the creative team behind the camera.
Many big names appear in straightforward cameos like Sir Ben Kingsley. His namesake Ben Stiller seems to have run out of steam as an actor, so almost all of the jokes go unnoticed. Humor from the lips of Ricky Gervais and does fall in layers. Owen Wilson's presence can only be explained by his presence in the previous parts. And the presence of Robin Williams is more tender sadness than laughter. But the monkey easily outshines them all.
The rather wooden visual effects do not spoil the picture, but they also do not help the plainly movieed plans. The movie can be generally called cheap. At all levels. From the story to the standard soundtrack chords designed to make viewers feel enthusiastic about what is happening. All this ends up and hits constantly by, only a few moments remain in memory, and even then most likely for a short time.
Recommend to see “ Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb ” in the cinema is definitely not worth it. It's not worth the agonizing fees, session selection, popcorn and soft drinks, much less a big screen. You can catch him somewhere and then on TV, because the final of the franchise did not bring anything outstanding, worth going to the session. The struggle between originality and mediocrity ended in victory for the latter.
