British Film Institute saved the first movie adaptation of Alice in Wonderland

It is common knowledge that Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland was movieed many times, but few people know that the very first movie was released in Great Britain in 1903 by directors Percy Stowe and Cecil Hapworth. Over the past century, the original movie has fallen into disrepair. British Film Institute specialists managed to restore 8 of the 12 minutes of the original timing. The movie can be viewed here.

It is worth noting that the picture was created just 37 years after the first publication of Alice in Wonderland. and just a few years after the invention of cinematography.

In this picture, special effects were used for the first time, which were very impressive at that time.
