Animators – kind people. They love children. Only here some of them feel some strange, probably subconscious hatred towards their parents. There is no other way to explain their desire to turn potentially family cartoons into a spectacle for children no older than six years old. And then the poor parents are forced not only to honestly sit out the tape to the end, but also to diligently pretend that they liked it – otherwise the children may be offended. Isn't this cruelty?
If in essence, then `` Monsters on vacation '' (originally - " Hotel " Transylvania ") – the cartoon is colorful, rich, perky, informative and, in general, extremely interesting for children. Only now it is a shame to use the script in it, even in the form of a blank, nowadays, and as a finished material – and even more so. Should be ashamed. But Sony Pictures Animation animators are not burdened with such trifles. Concentrating all their resources on the shell, they completely gave a damn about its content. Therefore, we now have at the exit a story that most other creators simply refuse to copy, at least in such a clumsy form – their muses forbid them.
The ancient history of "fathers and children", in comparison with which Dracula – baby, here it is naturally overgrown with all conceivable and crazy cliches that people will learn a little bit more, and learn to assimilate automatically at birth – at the genetic level, so to speak. Everything – starting from plot twists in a perfect straight line, and ending with numerous gags and jokes – already known by heart to everyone who has reviewed at least a dozen paintings in their lives. Needless to say, in this case, the characters have no characters in principle – this is not a monster, this is a tomb with a bunch of mummies, differing from each other only in shades of centuries-old mold.
One cannot, of course, argue with the fact that all this is done surprisingly dynamically and entertainingly. The characters are almost always in motion, which is only occasionally interspersed with a couple of phrases from the philosophy textbook for dummies. Which, however, are useful for young, emerging minds. Another thing is that all these rantings, as well as the most primitive dialogues in general, will easily reject the sympathy of even an inexperienced viewer. Which cannot be won by any riot of colors, for in life we have already seen enough to miss something familiar again.
Actually, the only thing that is original in " Monsters … " – it's an idea. Swap – in every sense – monsters and people, alas, thought of a long time ago, but to place all the first in the castle-hotel, so that they hide there from the second – it's really interesting. And most importantly – what a deposit! It’s a pity that he remained the deposit: they pay significant attention to him only for about twelve and fifteen minutes. The rest of the time, the father rushes about with his daughter in love, as if the action takes place not in a secret old castle full of mythical creatures, but in the suburbs of San Francisco, for example. Or Pasadena, where peace and quiet, peace and in general, grossly exaggerating, the problem of love in adolescence – almost the worst problem.
As for finding wise localizers, who turned a birthday into a vacation, and threw the hotel to hell, they decided to be in solidarity with their overseas employers. That is, to finish off the signs of the life of the parents in the hall. The tactics are simple and honed over the years, and the war machine is ruthless and merciless towards everyone in general. Remember, if you still decide to go to the session: name – this is the most harmless thing they did to the cartoon. And even old, familiar – though not all – voices do not save the situation at all, since the translation was made in the best traditions of the USA Inquisition, sorry, movie-translation tradition.
