Review of the movie A million ways to lose your head. How McFarlane lost his head

In the Wild West, a love comedy unfolds about a cowardly farmer and the girls around him in a town where people are constantly dying. The admixture is quite worthy of the track record of the creator of American Daddy. and the host of one of the most interesting Oscars Seth MacFarlane. In his second full-length work, he tries to be like Charlie Chaplin. In the sense that he wants to do everything on his own, relying solely on his own genius. However, this is the main reason why one of the million lost heads in the new movie was his own head.

Seth McFarlane literally burst into big cinema in 2012 with the hit comedy `` The Extra Three '', which was a hit with both critics and audiences. which is confirmed by the status of the highest grossing original comedy in the history of cinema. Without stopping at this achievement, he went even further, thinking to take on a comedic western, again based on an original idea. The cast of A Million Ways to Lose Your Head Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Silverman soon signed up. It would seem that the project has ascended to heaven, however, as everyone knows, the higher you go, the more painful it is to fall from there, and MacFarlane fell notably.

It began with the fact that the director decided to appoint himself the main star of the project. Only MacFarlane forgot that he was seen in front of the camera only as a talking toy bear, which means that he has no real power in this hypostasis. Furthermore, he can speak in hundreds of different voices, but this does not at all testify to his fantastic acting abilities. Because they are not. He's not that completely bad on the screen, but the ensemble of those whom he invited as his assistants literally tramples him with their playing in the mud. Sarah Silverman manages to outplay even Theron, Seyfried and Neeson, who quite possibly got one of the worst roles in his entire career, with her several scenes.

The vicissitudes of MacFarlane's acting could be forgiven if he made a real comedy. But apparently being too carried away with creating the atmosphere of a real western, the director (and the main actor and screenwriter, to all other joys) completely forgot about jokes. The demonstrated show turned out to be very boring, tight and poor for funny episodes. The movie has its good moments, but McFarlane fails to bring the action on one wave. He inevitably slides into some kind of creative pit, covered with naked vulgarity.

It is all the more offensive that he has all the other reins in his hands. Good music by Joel McNealy, who previously worked mainly second-rate cartoons. Cinematographer Michael Barrett's picture is dry but beautiful. The scenery is authentic and the costumes are chic. But the salt itself is not enough. Therefore, the movie becomes a flat board, on which MacFarlane walks with his arms wide apart.

All these disadvantages literally bury the movie. Charlize Theron manages to be ordinary, too much attention is paid to Neil Patrick Harris's mustache, Amanda Seyfried makes her eyes. Watch `` A Million Ways To Lose Your Head '' after the "Third extra" quot; - it's like chewing stale bread after a fragrant loaf. Bland, harsh, and eminently uninteresting. Moreover, cinemas this summer are literally bursting under the onslaught of comedies, which McFarlane loses with a large margin.
