Pixar studio creative director John Lasseter spoke with USA journalists during his visit to Moscow. One of the best modern animators spoke about the studio's current projects, as well as the basic principles of its work.

In particular, the famous director and producer said that the basis of all Pixar projects is a detailed story, not visual perfection. That is why fans of cartoons such as " WALL-E " do not expect a continuation in the near future. The studio does not yet have a decent storyline.

John Lasseter emphasized that in his company, the process of creating full-length animated movies is more like `` digital archeology '', since each participant in the project requires a deep understanding of the main theme of the cartoon. So, while working on the movie `` Ratatouille '' its authors studied the life of rodents, and when creating the cartoon "Finding Nemo" Pixar employees “had to become specialists in diving and the underwater biosphere.”

As for the stereoscopic version of the latest cartoon, Lasseter is confident that it was literally made for her. While working on Finding Nemo, animators were forced to consider projection depth in water, which is all the more obvious in 3D.

Despite his passion for computer animation, John Lasseter has great respect for his colleagues movieing traditional, drawn cartoons, in particular, to the Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. The head of Pixar is also familiar with the Soviet school. According to Lasseter, at one time he was greatly impressed by the work of Anatoly Petrov.

Recall that John Lasseter would direct such cartoons as Toy Story, The Adventures of Flick, Cars. and others.
