The Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese, was able to get an R rating instead of NC-17 only after the director agreed to cut several scenes of erotic content from the production version. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Scorsese and representatives of the Paramount studio, which is responsible for the distribution of the movie in North America, held a series of negotiations with the administration of the American Film Producers Association to agree on a list of episodes to be removed. It is not specified which scenes were removed.

Note that the total duration of the movie is 179 minutes, which makes the project the longest movie in the Christmas season and one of the longest in the director's career.
