Academy Award Winner Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs) will star in the television adaptation of The Western World of the same name, which is executive produced by J.J. Abrams. Evan Rachel Wood will be his project partner. HBO Greenlit for The Hollywood Reporter for the production of a television pilot, which was agreed upon in August 2013.

Based on the 1973 movie by Michael Crichton, Western World billed as a grim odyssey of the dawn of artificial intelligence and its consequences.

Hopkins will play Dr. Robert Ford, the brilliant, taciturn creative director, chief programmer and chairman of Westworld. He has his own uncompromising vision of the future park and is ready to use unorthodox methods to achieve the goal. Wood's heroine, Dolores Abernathy, is a typical Western farm girl. She has to learn that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborate lie.

For Hopkins, the role of Dr. Robert Ford will be the first regular on television. Wood has previously worked with HBO, starring in a supporting role in the TV series Mildred Pierce. and in a recurring role in the vampire drama True Blood.

In addition to Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Brian Burke will executive produce. Spouses Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan wrote the script for the pilot and are also executive producers. Nolan is announced as the pilot's director.
