Zoe Soldana will play the female lead in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress is set to become a green-skinned assassin named Gamora. In the comic book series, Gamora is Thanos's adopted daughter and the last representative of her race, destroyed by a warlike civilization. She was a permanent member of the Guardians. The movie will also star Chris Pratt, who is tasked with playing Star-Lord. James Gunn has been appointed director. The movie is scheduled to premiere on August 1, 2014.
