HBO has commissioned the production of a drama series being produced by Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, with Mick Jagger and George Mastras as executive producers. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The as-yet-untitled drama, the Untitled HBO / Rock `N` Roll Project, takes place in the 70s in New York and features the music business of time – infused with sex and drugs - through the eyes of music producer Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale). With the rise of punk and disco, Richie is trying to revive his American Century Records and is looking for a new musical direction. Personal crisis is compounded by the need to make vital decisions.

The other two starring roles are played by Olivia Wilde, who plays Richie's wife – Devon Finestru, a former actress and model, and Ray Romano, whose character is Richie's business partner. The cast includes Juno Temple, P.J. Byrne, Joe Cagnano, Andrew Dice Clay, Ato Essonda, Max Casella, Jack Quaid, Robert Funaro, Birgitta Yort Sorensen, J.S. McKenzie, Mick Jagger's son, James Jagger, and others.

In addition to Scorsese, who directed the pilot episode, the series is executive produced by Jagger, Winter, Rick Yorn, Victoria Pierman, Emma Tillinger and Mastras. Winter, who wrote the script with Mastras, has been appointed showrunner for the project. No premiere date has been set yet.

New TV projects for the music business include the hip-hop drama Empire, starring Terrence Howard, which Fox is launching in January 2015, and the ABC comedy "
