On July 1, 2016, the popular Hollywood actress Olivia De Havilland, known to viewers primarily for her role as Melanie in the drama "Gone with the Wind", celebrates her centenary.

The actress made her movie debut in 1935, starring in the movie adaptation of Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream", in the same year the second picture with her participation "The Odyssey of Captain Blood" was released. After the tremendous success of Gone With the Wind, for which Olivia De Havilland was nominated for an Academy Award, she became one of the most sought-after Hollywood actresses of her generation.

She received her first Oscar in 1947 year, having played in the movie "To Each His Own", the second gold statuette was awarded to Olivia De Havilland in 1950 for her participation in the drama "Heiress". Thus, she became one of the few Hollywood actresses to receive two Academy Awards for her leading roles.

However, Olivia De Havilland made Hollywood history not only because of her acting talent, but also because of the famous litigation with Warner Bros. in 1944. The studio tried to force the actress to cooperate after the expiration of the standard contract, but she refused, went to court and won the case. Thus, the Hollywood system of concluding bonded contracts with actors, which regulated not only the conditions of their work, but often also their personal life, was finally destroyed.
