Walt Disney Studios Accused Of Borrowing Zootopia Idea

Walt Disney has been named a defendant in a plagiarism lawsuit filed in California federal court. According to The Wrap, screenwriter Gary Goldman accused her of borrowing the main idea of the animated movie "Zootopia".

According to the plaintiff, he twice offered the studio his script on this topic - in 2000 and 2009 - and both times he was rejected. Goldman claims that Walt Disney has a corporate practice of using other people's ideas without the permission of the authors.

"Despite the fact that The Walt Disney Company itself is zealous for protecting its intellectual property, it has created a culture that not only does not prohibit plagiarism, but rather encourages the use of other people's ideas," the statement says.

It also indicates that the plaintiff, having applied to the studio earlier, provided her with not only a detailed study of the plot, a description of the main characters and illustrations, but even the very name "Zootopia". "Rather than legitimately acquiring the rights to all of these materials, the studio rejected them as not interested in them. And then just took advantage of them," the statement said.

Walt Disney representatives have categorically denied all charges and promised to confirm their rights in court. Recall that the cartoon "Zootopia" earned more than one billion dollars at the worldwide box office.
