Marvel acknowledges fans' rejection of updated superhero images

Fans of Marvel comics did not accept the radical changes in the images of popular superheroes, which were produced by the company in favor of the now fashionable policy of "more diversity". Marvel Vice President David Gabrell, who oversees the sales department, spoke about this in an interview with icv2.

"They don't want female characters. We hear this, whether someone likes it or not. It's hard for me to judge how this corresponds to reality, but there is an obvious factor - sales. Any unconventional interpretation, any major update, our attempts to introduce female characters, anything that is a departure from the classic Marvel heroes makes fans turn away, "he said.

Gabriel's statement has caused controversy on social media. Some comic book fans were outraged by his findings and argued in their comments that the drop in sales was caused not by "racial and gender diversity, but by the fact that comic book consumers are tired of Uncle Ben's constant death."

A little later, David Gabriel was forced to declare that Marvel "is proud to present readers with new and unique versions of famous superheroes alongside the classic ones."

Note that in recent years, Marvel has been actively experimenting with its key characters. So, in one of the main episodes, Thor became a woman, and instead of Tony Stark, a black student tried on the Iron Man suit.
