A few days before the premiere of the Halloween special, MTV extended the youth horror "Scream" for a third season and announced a change of showrunners. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The third season will consist of six episodes. This is half the size of the second season and less than the first ten-episode season. The decision was made a few days before the two-hour Halloween special will air on October 18, 2016. At the time of this writing, it is not yet clear if the third season will be final.

New showrunners, whose appointments are yet to come, will replace Michael Gance and Richard Register, who in turn have replaced Jill E. Blotwogel and Jame Paglia .

Additional details, for the third season will be announced later. It is also not yet known whether the series will change its traditional format to the anthology format, which was discussed at the very beginning.

The ratings of the second season are significantly inferior to those of the first season. The creator of the full-length franchise, Kevin Williams, did not take part in its television version. Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gaitley, Marianne Maddalina and Katie Konrad share executive producer responsibilities.
