Jonathan Ive, vice president of industrial design at Apple, was involved, albeit indirectly, in developing the concept for the highly controversial lightsaber shown in the first movie of Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens. The famous designer himself spoke about this in an interview with NewYorker.

According to him, he expressed his ideas at a meeting with the director of the picture Jay Jay Abrams in New York. "It was just a conversation. I thought it would be nice if the sword was less 'perfect', with a slightly rougher and more structured blade. In other words, it gave the impression of being 'analog', more primitive and more sinister." Ive said. He stressed that he had nothing to do with the emergence of the flaming guard saga that excited fans.

Recall that a strange two-handed sword with a flaming red blade ended up in the hands of an unknown character wandering through the winter forest. As JJ Abrams said in an interview, supporters and opponents of the new concept literally bombarded him with letters in which they proved either the complete unsuitability of this type of sword, or, on the contrary, its extreme effectiveness.

Jonathan Ive has designed many of Apple's world-famous devices, including the MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPods, iPhones, iPads, and iOS.
