Three-time Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone is completing a deal for the title role in Antoine Fuqua's adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel Omerta ("Training Day"). Omerta is the third book of the trilogy, which begins with The Godfather and The Last Don. It is assumed that Stallone will play the head of the mafia. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

According to sources, the channel for the upcoming series has not yet been found, and movieing of the pilot will begin early this summer. The same sources believe that the project will soon be sold to a cable channel or streaming service. The book on which the series is based was published in 2000, a year after the death of twice Oscar winner Puzo.

For Stallone, this will be the first scripted television series of his career. As of this writing, the actor is serving as an executive producer on the non-scripted sports show "Strong," which started this month on NBC. Although Stallone failed to win a 2016 Oscar for his supporting role in Creed: Rocky's Legacy, the 69-year-old actor's work was highly praised by critics.

A few months ago, Fuqua signed a multi-year contract with Weinstein Co., and it looks like Omerta will be his first project.
