Chinese studio Alibaba Pictures, owned by one of the largest marketplaces, has acquired from 20th Century Foxthe rights to remake "Night at the Museum". The Hollywood Reporter reports citing its sources.

The timing of work on the project has not yet been specified, it is only asserted that it is only at an early stage, and it does not yet have a director or potential performers of the main roles. The original Hollywood version, directed by Sean Levy, was released in 2006. Worldwide gross was $ 575 million. Later, two sequels were presented.

It is noteworthy that the first series earned only $ 8.3 million in China, while the third - already $ 47 million. Since then, the capacity of the Chinese movie market has increased by about several times.

Let us remind you that Alibaba Pictures is actively cooperating with the largest Hollywood movie companies, in particular with Paramount Pictures. Earlier it was announced the studio's intention to invest in Star Trek 3: Infinity and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

Alibaba Pictures also plans to develop its own pool of movie projects, the first of which is scheduled to be shot in autumn 2016.
