Irwin Welch will prepare a TV sequel to Dirt

London-based production company Buccaneer Media, owned by producer Tony Wood, and writer Irwin Welch will be adapting Welch's novel "Crime". For the first time, the author of the book Trainspotting will participate in the adaptation of his own work for television. Dougray Scott (Hemlock Grove) will star and executive produce the six-part drama. Buccaneer Media, which has movieed the ITV and Netflix crime drama Marseille, will be showcasing the new project at Mipcom, which traditionally takes place at the end of October in Cannes. This is reported by the publication Deadline.

"Crime" is a sequel to Welch's novel "Shit" (1998), which was movieed in 2013 with the participation of James McAvoy "Dirt". In the upcoming series, the events unfold today, and the main character is Detective Inspector Ray Lennox (in the movie, he was played by Jamie Bell). The action takes place primarily in Miami and is punctuated by flashbacks related to Lennox's previous case in Edinburgh. In the book, Lennox finds himself embroiled in an investigation into a pedophilia case.

Welch will write the screenplay with his longtime creative partner Dean Cavana (Married Pretty Women). Welch noted that he and Kavanagh have long wanted to movie the story, which he calls "a classic journey from darkness to light."
