DreamWorks Animation has announced a restructuring program that will reduce the number of cartoons produced per year from three to two, and the number of laid-off employees will reach 500.

The studio's priority projects for the next three years will be the cartoons "Kung Fu Panda 3", "Trolls", "Baby Boss", "The Croods 2", "Young Hooligans" and "How to Train Your Dragon 3." At the same time, the premiere of the latter will be postponed for another year. Previously, it was assumed that the third episode of the popular animated movie would be released in 2016, then the premiere was postponed to June 9, 2017. The new release date is June 29, 2018.

It is noteworthy that the new DreamWorks Animation plan does not contain any mention of the cartoon "The Department of Otherworldly Affairs", which was planned to be released in summer 2015. Probably, the studio intends to comply with the previously announced rental schedule.

The fate of other promising projects is also unclear, such as Madagascar 4, as well as the cartoon Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives and 40 Thieves, which are to be premiered in 2018.

According to studio head Jeffrey Katzenberg, the proposed restructuring plan will focus on those critical to DreamWorks Animation, reduce costs and increase production profitability.
