Ridley Scott will continue to collaborate with the creator of The Martian, writer Andy Weir. According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to the new script, prepared by Weir, and Scott intends to become the producer of the future movie based on it.
The name and content of the project is still kept secret, its genre is also unknown, but Weir's previous works suggest that we are still talking about science fiction. Simon Kienberg, who also worked on The Martian, will also be co-producing the movie.
Recall that the latter was released in October 2015. The main roles in the movie were played by Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Sebastian Stan, Michael Pena, Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, Jeff Daniels and other actors.
Despite significant flaws in the scientific part, the project was well received by both critics and viewers. With a production budget of $ 108 million, it grossed more than $ 600 million worldwide, becoming one of Ridley Scott's most successful movies.
"The Martian" has become one of the key contenders for the main professional awards of the season. The movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards but never received any.
