Walt Disney Studios has decided to support Steven Spielberg's new directorial project, "The BFG". According to Somingsoong, the studio will finance the movie and some of the production functions.

Thus, this will be the first joint project of the famous director and the Walt Disney studio. Recall that in the work, which was first published in 1982, the plot is built around a little girl Sophie and her giant friend, nicknamed BFG, who specializes in delivering good dreams to children. Together they must find a way to protect the world from other, less welcoming giants, for whom children are a favorite treat.

The main role will be played by Mark Rylance, familiar to the audience from the movies Anonymous and Another Boleyn. The role of Sophie went to the young Ruby Barnhill. The movie will also star Daniel Bacon, Jemaine Clement, Bill Hader and other actors.

Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks studio acquired the rights to movie this book back in 2011. The adaptation of the literary source for the screen was done by Melissa Matheson, who also worked on the script for the famous movie "Alien".

The BFG, which will be predominantly shot in Vancouver, will premiere on July 1, 2016.
