Channing Tatum is ready to give up the role of Gambit in the adaptation of the comic book series dedicated to the popular character from the X-Men universe.
According to The Wrap, the actor's negotiations with 20th Century Fox have reached an impasse, and soon the director Rupert Wyatt will start looking for a leading actor. The reason for Tatum's departure from the project, which he himself has repeatedly described as the project of his dreams, has not yet been specified. It is also not known whether he will remain, as planned, the producer of the picture. Officials of the actor himself and the movie studio do not comment on the incident.
In any case, the replacement of the performer of the title role should happen quickly enough, since the premiere of the picture is scheduled for October 7, 2016, and therefore, its shooting will begin in the near future. Recall that Channing Tatum took part in the Comic-con 2015 festival as a performer of the role of Gambit, that is, in mid-July 2015, nothing foreshadowed future problems.
It is possible that Tatum made the decision to pursue his first directorial project, which he talked about earlier.
Gambit was last seen in X-Men Begins: Wolverine in 2009. Then he was played by Taylor Kitsch.
