Lionsgate has scrapped plans to complete Divergent on the big screen. According to Variety, citing its sources, the movie "Divergent Chapter 4" will not be released in theaters, but will become a television project.

It is assumed that he will launch a series, which will take place in the same universe. In the creation of the latter, the studio will involve a new cast. At the time of this writing, it was not known whether key players in the first three feature movies will take part in it.

Note that the premiere of the movie "Divergent, Chapter 4" was previously scheduled for March 27, 2017, and movieing was to take place in the summer of 2016 in Atlanta. Likely after the failure at the box office of Divergent, Chapter 3: Behind the Wall, which grossed just $ 179 million on a production budget of $ 110 million, Lionsgate decided to change its development strategy for the project. Its official representatives have so far declined to comment on this.

Recall that the key roles in the project, based on the works of Veronica Roth, were played by Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Naomi Watts, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Kew, Jeff Daniels, Johnny Weston, Bill Skarsgard and others.
