A remake of the famous gangster drama Scarface has lost its director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Antoine Fuqua left the project and chose to focus on movieing the sequel to the action movie "The Great Equalizer 2."

It is alleged that the studio Universal, intends to urgently search for a new director and at the same time appointed the leading actor Diego Luna, who became famous after participating in the movie "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". Naturally, no timeframes for the implementation of this project were given at the time of this writing.

Recall that Universal has been trying to shoot a new version of the classic gangster movie for years. Several potential directors have changed over the years. Fukua has been one of them since mid-summer 2016.

The original movie was released in 1932, but the 1983 remake starring Al Pacino is best known. In both cases, the plot was built around an emigrant who rises to the very top of the criminal community. The first movie was about an Italian, the second about a Cuban.

The third movie is expected to take place in Los Angeles, with a Latin American gangster as the main character.
