The famous Irish director Kenneth Branagh will take on the new movie adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, which is owned by 20th Century Fox, will be based on a script by Michael Green. The movie adaptation will be overseen by a production team led by Ridley Scott, Simon Kienberg and Mark Gordon.

Recall that the novel was published in 1934 in a series of works dedicated to detective Hercule Poirot. The action takes place in the so-called Orient Express - a train that ply between Paris and Istanbul.

The novel was movieed several times. The most famous is the 1974 full-length version, starring Albert Finney. The movie also stars Sean Connery, Vanessa Redgrave, Lauren Bacall, Michael York, John Gielgud, Ingrid Bergman, Wendy Hillier, Martin Balsam, Rachel Roberts and other famous actors. The movie was successful at the box office and earned six Academy Award nominations. Ingrid Bergman won an Oscar for her supporting role.

As for Kenneth Branagh, his last directorial job at the time of this writing was Cinderella.
