USAn Ministry of Culture cuts spending on feature movies
The Ministry of Culture of the USA Federation intends to significantly reduce the costs of supporting the production of domestic full-length feature movies. According to Izvestia, citing the press service of the department, in 2017, no more than 40 movie projects will be able to apply for financial assistance, while a year earlier support was provided to 72. The rules for selecting candidates will also be tightened. This year, representatives of the largest distributors, as well as the largest cinema chains, have been invited to join the expert councils to improve their expertise. The Ministry of Culture emphasizes that it is ready to take part in financing only a certain type of projects, for example, screen versions of classical works, military history paintings, movies about inspiring examples of success or tapes with social and moral problems. Earlier it became known that in 2017 the Federal Film Foundation will distribute four billion rubles. Of this amount, 2.5 billion will be spent on supporting projects of leading movie companies in domestic production, 500 million on projects of other companies, One billion rubles will be allocated for the modernization of cinemas in settlements with a population of up to 500 thousand people.
