The director of the television adaptation of the novel of the same name by John le Carre, in which, in addition to new actors, Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki and Olivia Coleman are already listed, is Suzanne Beer. The following actors will also appear in the drama: Adil Akhtar ("Utopia"), Natasha Little ("Wolf Hall"), Jonathan Aris ("Sherlock") and Hannah Steele ("Doctor Who").

Story in modern interpretation of the spy novel will tell about love, loss and revenge. The plot revolves around a former British soldier, Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston), who serves as an overnight receptionist at a luxury hotel.
