The director of the television adaptation of the novel of the same name by John le Carre, in which, in addition to new actors, Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki and Olivia Coleman are already listed, is Suzanne Beer. Filming for the miniseries, adapted by David Farr, began last month. Steven Cornwell, Simon Cornwell, Stephen Garrett, David Farr and Polly Hill share executive producer functions.

The following actors will also appear in the drama: Adil Akhtar ("Utopia"), Natasha Little ("Wolf Hall"), Jonathan Aris ("Sherlock") and Hannah Steele ("Doctor Who").

Story in modern interpretation of the spy novel will tell about love, loss and revenge. The plot revolves around a former British soldier, Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston), who serves as an overnight receptionist at a luxury hotel. He is recruited by intelligence operative Burr (Coleman) to uncover illegal arms trafficking schemes between Whitehall and Washington. To enter the circle of trust in the English arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), Pine must turn into a criminal. Roper's inner circle includes his girlfriend Jed (Debicki) and his accomplice Corcoran (Hollander).
